Is there a Lunatic inside your Head?

This is a post I wrote near on 2 years agoI believe that it is still relevant today.

“I’ve gone a little crazy for this post. It”s a somewhat different take on things, a different angle or perspective if you like……..

#What’s that you say?…..I thought I heard a voice. # Nah, can’t be?

You know, that nagging “voice” which is trying to interrupt your concentration. You are  focussing but there is something else lurking in your subconscious, trying to get to the surface………it appears some lunatic is attempting to sabotage your thoughts OR is that same “lunatic” just trying to get your attention?

Which “lunatic” is it…..Good Lunatic or Bad Lunatic?

The Good Lunatic may at first seem a little crazy, a little different, make a lot of noise but hey, isn’t that the world that we live in? full of noise, distraction. Maybe that’s why he/she is making so much noise……to get your attention in the first instance.

Unnecessary distraction & noise take us away from our Main Game. There are (numerous) times when I have  needed a “good lunatic” to get me back on track. A Voice prepared to give me a good “kicking” when required. A Voice to rise above the noise of everyday Life and at the same time, respect my need for quietness when the time to pause for some deep thought & introspection is required

However, there is also the “bad lunatic” voice, which can be much more subtle(at first). Quietly whispering in your ear. The soothing sounds of self destruction. He/she sneeks up on you, becomes your “friend”, gently offering support & encouragement……..only to eventually get you derailed!

Then the  “bad” becomes “real bad”. He/she ups the volume. The gentle soothing whispers become noisier, more persistent. You have difficulty hearing anything else, this “lunatic” is gaining control & is blocking out the voice of reason, commonsense, practicality and the quiet of deep personal thought.

Which “lunatic” do you want or have inside your head?

Sadly, many are unaware of the voice within the inner guiding light, intuition, cosmic power source, universal thought line or whatever tag you would like to apply. So for many, there is a lunatic running loose in the asylum. A distracting noise aimed at your self destruction.

The Key, I believe is knowing your inner voice, it’s vulnerabilities and it’s power (when it’s good & when it’s bad). Knowing your inner voice & it’s behaviour, will give you more self control and the ability to be your true self, rather than have a “lunatic” in charge of your life.”

Living Life Today – Have we lost “The Art of Happiness”?

The Living Life Today series provides a platform to think about your Life as it is Now, enjoy what you have, review and create an even better future for tomorrow”….. Short, sharp & easily digestible.

My “happiness” is a resource that I can draw from when my stocks are low. It largely comes from Gratitude for being here and Belief in my own Personal power.

I get unhappy at times. You know…. ‘this gets to you’, ‘that irritates you ‘& so on.

Now I could wallow in self pity for a while, feel miserable, the world’s against me etc,…..but I don’t, I draw on my “Bank of Gratitude” & Belief that all will be well.

This is the Art to being Happy……in my opinion.  I’m not necessarily talking about delirious, foot stomping, back slapping, side splitting happy (though that’s good), no I am talking about an inner happy.

A sense inside that all is well or will be. A happy internal glow, a calm, a reassurance……that type of Happy.

We can always chase our “Happiness”, like….. We will be happy when…….We will be Happy if…….

However looking for an external source for your happiness, when it’s lurking inside all of the time, will only end in frustration.

Being aware that you can tap into your very own internal resource?…….well Life Lovers, that is true Art, use it to the Max!

What have you always wanted to do but haven’t been able to start?

Why is it that we have something that we have longed to do and yet still manage to either

  • put it off for another time, not important enough now (excuse)
  • still working up the courage to try (doubt)
  • dismiss altogether as “fantasy, dream time stuff” (excuse)

Doubts and Excuses are generally the main offenders here.  OR

Is it for Fear?…..

Fear of failure, Fear of ridicule?

Fear of someone saying “NO” to your new marvellous idea, strategy, proposal, request, dream, goal, question?

Is it due to lack of Self Esteem?…..

You’ve been told before that this “won’t work”

You have had many previous “NO’s”

Your ‘Courage flame’ has been extinguished

Deep down you don’t feel worthy

Is it due to lack of Motivation?…..

There is not a big enough “Why”

Your “time” is being spent doing other stuff

The passion is missing

Is it due to lack of your Focus?……….

Too many ‘distractions’

‘Urgent’ things taking precedence over important things

Time poor or poor time management

Fear, Doubt, Excuses lurk within us all.

Fear & Doubt are very similar and generally go hand in hand. There have been many great articles written on this subject and also on Motivation, Self Esteem & Focus.

Excuses…..the silent destroyer of our dreams & goals & delayer of our actions, our go forward. Excuses are sneaky. Excuses are subtle. We excuse our actions or should I say, lack of action with language that suits the occasion…..

“I’m not quite ready”…..”Tomorrow would be better”…..”I don’t really deserve this”…..I am not as good as them”…..”I have other better stuff to do right now”

When I say language, this may not necessarily be words. Remember it starts with your thoughts and this is where the subtelty lies. One’s subconscious is feeding you ‘excuse thoughts’ without you knowing.

They then manifest into your inaction. Tricky eh? Well…..

How about some Purpose?…..Get your mind into “action mode”. Feed yourself “action thoughts” like, Positive I am statements, I will do statements…..how about making them your daily ritual?

I say, enough of the ‘excuses’, banish the ‘doubt & fear’. Make a start on your long held dreams. Make a start on doing the things that will make you feel good. Make a start on the things that will make a difference in your Life…..are you with me?

My “Happy” is my Friend

Weird heading eh?…..hopefully it got your attention.

There’s a gazillion posts out there on “Happiness” in it’s varying forms. I am not going to give you umpteen reasons how to be happy, rather my (sometimes obscure) slant on me, being “happy”…..maybe it can relate to you.

I find myself being happy most all the time. Simple enough statement.

Question…why?   Answer…why not?

My “happy” starts with a smile…..Internally I light up. This then extends to my external  facial expression. So it’s an inside to outside job.

What’s an internal smile?…..hard to describe however it gives me a feeling of overall ‘good’, bliss, ‘feel right’ or maybe it works the other way round, those feelings give me the ‘smile’…..anyway, it’s there. It’s the pre cursor to the external ‘evidence’…..the smile that you see.

It can come & go……I don’t always have my internal smile, so how can I switch it on?

When I look at my current state of play, there could be a lot to be unhappy about…..and I have some, not many,  tormenting moments of unhappiness. They are usually only brief though, my good internal smile kicks in and sends the unhappiness packing…..How?

It’s like a good friend saving you from a fight, getting you out of a scrape…..my “happy” friend. It knows when I am in trouble with my thoughts and/or feelings.

You see, I choose to be happy, regardless of….. (I choose my friends wisely).

It’s like a fail safe mechanism…..if things turn sour my ‘fail safe’ turns this around, my choice kicks in, automatically. Choice is powerful. It’s the switch turning bad in to good, negative in to positive, stagnation in to imagination, unhappy in to happy…….

I can find no excuse for not being Happy.….because I can find many reasons to be happy and be content in the knowledge that any unhappiness will not last (due to the power of my choice). Don’t worry folks, I certainly have a lot to be grateful for & be happy about.

Does this sound fair or is it just bulldust…..what do you think?

What story are you Telling?

Is it one of pain or is it one of gain?

Is it one of sadness or is it one of happiness?

Like it or not, you tell your story to the world via your dialogue and your actions….AND

You also tell your story to yourself, via internal dialogue (self talk) and your thoughts.

So,what story are you telling and is it the real story?

People sometimes create a story line to suit their “audience”. Pure Fiction to create a headline or several or make them feel better about themselves. This storyline after time becomes “fact”, to the story teller(is this you?) and to his/her “readers”.

Fictional stories are a form of escapism. They are a great read. However when it’s your story, escaping from your real truths will likely hurt you in the end.

The opening chapters of your Life may not have been happy reading and….. not every story has a happy ending…….however you can take steps to make it the best ending possible.

Starting Today,You have the ability to rewrite your script,  rewrite the future chapters of your Life based on your new story…….sick of the analogies?….Sorry, just trying to get your attention.

So what will your new story be?…. It will start by facing up to your realities.

One needs to deal with these scenarios firstly;

  • Who are you really?…..is this the real you?
  • What do you want to get out of Life? …..do you know?
  • Do you have a Purpose or are you just going through the motions?
  • Are you living in a fairytale or a dreamworld full of falsehoods and are unable to (want) to escape?
  • Do you want to be the best real you that you can be?

If you want to answer these questions truthfully, you will be part way there. This will be the beginning of your new story…….the real story.

I am not going to write the ending for your story. The rest is up to you. Good luck.

The problem is in the Question OR There are no problems only Questions

 

How often do you question your actions, beliefs, your Life? To learn & grow we must ask questions.

Therefore a potential problem……. what questions to ask?

  • What questions will allow you to grow?
  • Do your questions pose more problems than answers?

However without problems there are no questions. So having “problems” is a necessity of Life. The quality of our Questions will determine the quality of our Answers. The better the answer, the easier the “problem” is solved and growth occurs.

Simple eh?

Understanding the value of great questions enhances the experience. Questions with meaning that is. The questions that will give true meaning to your Life.

These types of questions will add value to you & to those with whom you come in to contact.

What questions have you been asking of yourself lately?….OR

Do you have questions that you should be asking?
