How to get unstuck….. a bedtime story that’s a little different

What’s wrong?

Going nowhere? Frustration setting in?

“You seem to have the key in the lock however the door will not open?”

…….you are stuck….. and probably confused how this has happened…right?

Let’s go back a few steps.

Once upon a time……. there was a point where things were going very well for you.

Unfortunately “this time” became lost. The big bad wolf in the shape of (fuzzy thoughts, distractions, excuses, poor planning) came into the picture. You see, Mr Wolf has some very poor attributes……for example,

  • Fear producing
  • Procrastination building
  • Focus shattering
  • mind numbing
  • self esteem destroying

Getting “stuck” at various times is normal. The trick is to get unstuck as soon as possible…….otherwise ‘the above’ will devour you courtesy of Mr Wolf.

Firstly, we need to go back to the time when things were going well…….take a few moments and re live this time…..

What were you doing then?  What was working?  What was your attitude? Did you have goals and/or a Game Plan established?…..Yes?…No?…..Let’s review the following key points in order to get unstuck:

*Develop your Game Plan…..know your “moves”. This will allow you to stay in the game and plan your next play without hesitation. Your Game Plan is up to you. It can be as simple or as detailed as you wish. It can be a goal/series of, or a Roadmap. Either way, you have to have one.

*Have an Attitude of Confidence…..this will develop from knowing your game, what your capabilities are and going for the win…..whatever that may be for you…..the more “wins” the greater the confidence

*Bench the “fear”…..it doesn’t deserve to be in your game. More than likely, it is unfounded, it’s certainly unnecessary. There’s a lot of info on Fear out there, however can I suggest you take a look at  this from Tess The Bold Life. It may be very helpful.

*Procrastination is a main “sticker” & can manifest in many ways including the fear of succeeding…..(it’s a subtle one), don’t be afraid of success. Succeeding builds self esteem and focus…..see, you can kill two birds with one stone. Procrastination can also evolve from too many inter weaving thoughts…..get clear, review your Game Plan, simplify if necessary.

*Excuses keep us in a state of denial(and they don’t cut it). Excuses keep us treading water…..they keep us stuck in ‘nowheresville’. Choose to eliminate your excuses & free yourself up. It will also keep the wolf from your door.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on getting “unstuck”. The points I covered here are by no means exhaustive though they are probably the most common. Please share your thoughts in the comments below.

Be good to yourselves

  1. Hi David,

I believe maybe this one is the most important; *Have an Attitude of Confidence…..this will develop from knowing your game, what your capabilities are and going for the win…..whatever that may be for you…..the more “wins” the greater the confidence

When we have confidence we can keep fear and the other away. Confidnece want to make us keep going and going.

    Great post and thank you
    Debbie

  2. Hi David,

I think excuses are a big thing to overcome. It’s easy to get stuck when we hold onto ideas that things will be difficult, or we don’t have what it takes. Working past excuses and self-imposed limitations is also a major factor in building confidence and taking action. All important pieces of getting unstuck.

    • Hi Joe,
Thankyou for calling in. Many excuses are so subtle that we are unaware of them. I think having a big enough Game Plan/Vision is one great tool that can help overcome these limitations. We will still get stuck at times, however we have this tool to fall back on & get back on track…..and your confidence will build as you say.Thankyou.
      be good to yourself

  3. This is excellent and very timely.

I just finished posting an article on Dr Seuss’s Oh, The Places You’ll Go!

There was a part that reminded me of your post.

    I’m sorry to say so
    But, sadly, it’s true
    And Hang-ups
    Can happen to you.

You can get all hung up
    In a prickle-ly perch.
And your gang will fly on.
You’ll be left in a Lurch.

You’ll come down from the Lurch
    With an unpleasant bump.
    And the chances are, then,
That you’ll be in a Slump.

And when you’re in a Slump,
You’re not in for much fun.
    Un-slumping yourself
    Is not easily done.

  4. Hi David,

I enjoyed your post – good information. The one that jumped out at me was Develop your game plan. This covers most of being stuck for me. Good planning helps to ease the anxiety of not getting everything done. We do need a plan so that we know where we’ve been and where we are going. Love your intro. – very engaging.

  6. Hey David thanks for the amazing words. I found this to be a helpful post as I’m dealing with being stuck right now in my life. I think Im stuck because I’m lost and also at the same time fearful of where life will take me. In the past year I realized that fear is just an illusion and knowing that its an illusion helps me break free but here and there fear comes back in my mind and has me stuck again. Reading this brought back into perspective that I need to start making a change in my attitude and becoming more confident in my self.
