Be your own Champion

I wrote a similar post earlier this year called Love what you do Become your own Guru.

And on this theme, I would like to introduce you to your own ”Champion self”.

Inside of you is a Champion, your own champion.

A Champion urging you on to greater things…..greater thoughts, greater actions, greater outcomes.

Tap into your inner Champion and bring out the best in yourself.

When you are in “Champion mode”, Life is a breeze.

So, how do you summon your Champion? How do you bring your Champion out (of hiding)?……read on please.

A Champion goes to the edge & is comfortable being out on the edge. A Champion has belief that the ‘edge’ has plenty of space. Space enough to do what needs to be created, needs to be be done.

You see, our Champion is in our thought system. Being aware that we all have Champion qualities is our key to bringing our Champion in to the open. Simply believe this & have faith that your champion will be there for you when you need him/her the most.

Our Champion probably doesn’t wear a cape, our Champion may seem unassuming. However don’t be fooled for when our Champion gets into stride, Champion things begin to occur, our thoughts become actionable without question, without delay.

Have you felt this at some time? You take immediate action, you are in control, you make things happen. These ‘things’ may seem insignificant to others maybe even to yourself, however your Champion mode is now in full throttle and you are cruising, creating & getting stuff done.

Think it, Believe it, Act upon it.

So when you feel a little flat, a little down…start thinking ‘champion thoughts’ because champions get stuff done that others don’t dare do…and you have that champion inside of you.

Be good to yourselves

When I close my eyes…….

nice thoughtsNow for something a little different.

This is a “live” blog post, or nearly(I couldn’t type with my eyes closed). I am recording what I saw & heard, entirely unedited.

The story unfolded this morning…..

Sometimes when I close my eyes I just see a mish mash of images, voices and thoughts…….a random collection it seems.

However there are other times, like today when I set myself up for a positive visual tour of my mind. This was my experience this morning when I closed my eyes for two minutes…….

I saw and heard:

  • Waves crashing on the shore,
  • a shaft of sunsine glimmering on the ocean
  • a train arriving at the platform…..(what the?)
  • a crisp golf shot landing on the green at my local course followed by a shout from one of my playing partners…”you lucky bugger”
  • Children with their parents dancing in the park,
  • Friends shaking me by the hand, patting me on the back and saying “well done, I new you could do it”
  • Three elderly ladies chatting & laughing at the local shopping mall
  • Walking and talking with my wife and (younger) daughters on a walking trail in the Gold Coast Hinterland @ Springbrook
  • the riverfront and tree lined street @ Noosaville, Sunshine Coast
  • I was walking betwen tables and speaking to (my clients) in a group session on a large timber deck in the sunshine by a river
  • I am by the beach talking with four others about my 58th* birthday, the faces are not familiar

This “exercise” is not directly related to any specfic visualisation technique where one may attempt to visualise ‘things’ that they want or want to happen, which is powerful in it’s own right.

I wanted this exercise  to be an ‘open book’ examination of (positive) images & thoughts that have happened to me/will happen? and see how this would play out.

It is letting the mind meander with direction, in this case positive, picking up the vibe (of positive enjoyment)and creating a mental picture/video of the result…….maybe it’s unique to me?…..No, I think we can all do it.

Normally, I will close my eyes for a couple of minutes, 1-2 times per day which helps shut out any existing distractions around me. I will give thanks for the many positives in my Life and thanks in advance for the things that I want to happen. This commences my visualisation intent.

However, today I thought I would again experiment as I’ve outlined above. No particular focus other than on positive thoughts. My mind then played out a “movie” of particular positive/happy incidents that have occured(I’m sure) and others that I am guessing will be part of my future…..interesting. Can I predict my future? Am I seeing beyond the veil?…..I don’t know for sure……* I am still 56

However I do know that the mind is a powerful beast and there’s much about it that I still have to learn. I am now more of the belief  that I can train my mind to focus on the positive and remove the negative “at my command”…..and predict or project poitive images of my future?…..this is indeed good.

How about you?

Do you want more control over the selection of your thoughts? OR am I talking gibberish here?

be good to yourselves

Living Life Today…….Thinking too much?

I am expanding Personal Power 4 me’s blog to incorporate Life strategies, thoughts & experiences that  reflect more of what happens to us on a daily basis.

“Yesterday is gone, Today is here (& Now) and tomorrow is your future“.

Apart from being a qualified Life Coach and doing ‘Life Coaching things’, I would  like to share my thoughts & experiences of my nearly 57 years on this planet in a simple format, hopefully for the betterment of others.

The Imagination series will conclude after the next one (No 7).So as well as my “usual” posts,  “Living Life Today” will be a new vehicle. Shortish, sharpish, easily digestible & at times with a dose of humour (and some Imagination)……I’ve added a few more thoughts in this video. I hope you enjoy “Living Life Today”…..

Pull

A lot of thoughts run through our busy minds. Many come & go without ‘materialising’ into anything substantial. These are not formed, they are trapped amongst the “busyness”, no Too much thinking weighs you downaction follows. At least that’s my experience.

My best thoughts have come to me when…….I haven’t been consciously thinking at all

Is that weird?

Why not try it yourself? Don’t force, don’t over do the thinking thing.

Allow yourself some space and your great thoughts will come to you, effortlessly. That’s now my experience.

3 Meaningful steps for taking action that matters

Australian Coat of Arms (adopted 1912)

Image via Wikipedia

Warning! This is a Coaching post. It’s brief, there’s no mucking around, it’s straight to the point.

Further warning! Some of this language may offend or even worse, for my International friends, be too Australian(if that’s possible). There is some attempted humour but mostly it’s serious…….

Metaphorically speaking, if you are swimming against the tide, treading water, spinning your wheels, up sh*t creek without a paddle, you obviously need to take some action to get going forward & get out of this predicament.

Before you can start…….

You first need to Gain Traction

then ‘step by step’

build Momentum

Let’s identify what these steps really mean…..

“Traction” = stop the slide, gain some grip, shore up your defences, plug the gaps, review your ‘battle plan’, build a base, initiate thought processes

“Step by Step” = one foot in front of the other, constant movement, thought supported by action, never give up, keep punching, motion with motivation

“Momentum” = success thoughts colliding with action, on a roll, unbeatable, it’s all downhill from here, effortless motion, well oiled machine

These three “steps” may seem simple, in fact they are. I’ve found (and you may have too) that often the simple things, the blindingly obvious, are the ones oft overlooked or not even sighted……they elude our personal radar.

When you find yourself on the slide & you will at some stage, step back & look for some traction. Something that will give you some grip & leverage with which to move forward.

Once again, using the details above…….

When you put your traction in place, you can then start moving step by step, continually motivating yourself to keep going.

This will in turn, build your momentum…….

There’s no stopping you now.

be good to yourselves

15 options to break your Rut….with Style

Smile...Smile...Smile ;-)!

Image by Thai Jasmine (Keep Smiling.g..g.g :-) ) via Flickr

Ruts are nasty things. We have all been in them. They come in many forms.

Boredom, same old same old, procrastination, lack of promtional opportunities, Business gone flat, social life disappearing, relationships shaky or non existent, lack of goals, motivation or vision for the future.

Sometimes we need to just shake out the cobwebs and look at things with a different perspective, a fresh pair of eyes so to speak.

Otherwise our Ruts may consume us.

I’ve penned some thoughts, (which you may like?)…. humour me a little and have a read anyway. At the end of the day, if your life is starting to have that stale taste about it or has already become stale, commence thinking differently and take action in accordance with your new ‘style of thinking’.

You might like to try one or several of the below. Put them to the test. In no particular order…………………..

  • Slow down, pause, reflect……..what’s going on?…What can I do about it?… Interrupt the ‘sameness’. You can start by creating a new pattern of behaviour
  • Take a deep breath, exhale, what are your thoughts right now, are they serving you? Reflect on this…..time for new thoughts?
  • What makes you smile? Think about it, add a huge dose of Imagination then…………Smile!
  • Tell someone dear to you that you appreciate them OR be really bold & tell them that you Love them(assuming that your relationship is not stale or if it is, find someone else to Love)….that may be a big step, a huge step however it’s sure to be a Rut Buster
  • Try doing something different from the usual……….anything, you might like it!
  • Indulge yourself a little, think about your greatest achievements to date, what was great about them, can they be repeated………….it’s never too late to achieve again(it will at least get your thoughts percolating)
  • Be Grateful for what you already have(you do have things to be grateful for even if it doesn’t feel like it right now)……….Write them down. This process alone will brighten you up. You will be amazed at the ‘gratitudes’ you have…..and then, get on with it!
  • Read an inspiring Book or watch an inspiring Film, video. Take the time out, get the juices flowing again.
  • Take a walk, jog, bike ride…….exercise & exorcise the “staleness” from your system
  • Dream a little …..or a lot……Visualise where you want to be next week, 1, 5,10 years from now
  • Commence action relating to your visualisation and get excited about it and how it will change your Life
  • Tell people about your (new) future and how enjoyable it is going to be for you(accountability)
  • Wear a funny hat for a day,  smile a lot (you can’t be unhappy when you smile)
  • Find the outrageous in you. Deep inside lurks a (good) demon, bursting to be set free, locate & ignite the spark!….. At least try something outrageous once(maybe a blog post?) if your good demon wants back in his/her cage.
  • Seek the counsel of a close friend, helping professional, Life Coach. Simply talking about/through your issues will remove some of the ‘rut load’, you will start to feel lighter. Start removing the burden & move forward with your Life. Gain some traction.

Well, what do you think, worth the read? Let me know your thoughts.

be good to yourselves

There are many ways to Self destruct….so don’t try this at home

Woops!

You are on the way to achieving your Goal. The end is so tantalisingly near, yet…….you do not make it.

You have a great idea for a new project. The creative juices are flowing, yet…….you do not start.

Your speech is ready. You arrive at the lectern, yet…….the words don’t come out.

You line up your putt. It’s only a four footer for the Championship. It’s straight uphill, with no break. Yet…….you miss it.

Why?

The voices inside your head get gradually louder. They overtake your thought processes. They win.

What am I talking about here?

“The voices”?…Fear?…. Intimidation?…. Lack of Belief?….

All of them!

They all manifest in different ways however their roots can be traced back to your thought processes. Sounds simple but true, I see this often.

  • It is fair to say that the missed putt could be due to poor technique, noise in the gallery, a leaf blown within eyeshot just as you were stroking the ball. However I say that none of these would matter if your thoughts were focussed on that ball going in. You would hear no noise, your aim would be true, there would be no distractions. You would be in ‘the zone’. Sound right to you?
  • You have researched your speech. Your very first speech. In front of a (seemingly) huge audience. You begin to speak however no words come out. You hear the voice….inside your head….”you are not worthy, you can’t do this” repeating, repeating. Your first speech ends before it started. Your focus wasn’t there. You could have done it if your thoughts were focussed on the ‘end game’ – an audience on it’s feet, applauding.
  • A new project. Bigger & better than before. Can’t wait to get started…….the previous “project” was going to be bigger & better too. It didn’t start. What is going to be different this time? Will the fear of stuffing up come in to play again? Remember…….it was 9 months ago. You finished a project. It was your pride & joy. Yet, the critics panned it. You were laughed at, ridiculed. Remember? You haven’t quite recovered from that, have you? Why try again, you are too scared. Your thoughts are focussed on ‘intimidation’ & ‘fear’ rather than on ‘success’.
  • Finally, I am near to achieving my goal of (you can fill in the blanks). I have worked pretty hard to get this close. Something is holding me back. The closer I feel that I am getting to this goal, the further I seem to be away from it. It’s like an invisible force holding me back. I always get close…….

Not again! If only I believed that I am worthy of achieving this, that I am deserving, if only…….

Fellow Life Lovers, it all starts with a thought. Nurture the positive ones, discard the thoughts that will do you harm. With the positive ones – Think it, believe it, achieve it…….you can do it!

Don’t self destruct but rather construct, build your great Life & stay true to your (positive) thoughts.

be good to yourselves

Your Life can be as easy as 1, 2, 3…….

macro...

Image by Kamoteus (A Better Way) via Flickr

…….if you allow it.

Hello fellow Life lovers. This post is even shorter than my usual brief posts so I will get right to it. I want you to do a little pondering.

In it’s very simplest form we think, we believe (or not) about what we think, we then achieve (or not) what we believe about what we think.  Seem ok? Right.

Now if we (simply) thought good positive thoughts, believed them to our very core, then set about achieving them…….Life would be pretty good, right?

However, this doesn’t always happen…….does it, is this you?…..

  • Sabotaged thoughts, distractions, lack of belief, procrastination…….well, they all get in the way, still following?

“Life” can be easy, we make it hard.

Thinking positive thoughts rather than negative – easier said than done?  OK, some “distractions” are unavoidable but really only temporary when you look at the entire game of Life.

Game Breaker:

If you have an exciting enough Big Picture view of your Life, then the positive thoughts that will feed your desire to fullfil your Life, will always be present, tap in…….then believe in your thoughts then achieve your beliefs…….as easy as 1, 2, 3 = think, believe, achieve

Am I being a bit too tough here or too simplistic?… What are your thoughts?

3 Rules of Engagement – with Yourself

Firstly a question….”How do you talk to yourself?” No, I’m not suggesting that you’re nuts…..I’m talking about your internal dialogue. I went a little crazy with my last post but hopefully this contains a bit more sanity(and make some sense at the same time). The last post did have a message though.

“Self talk” has the ability to make us or sabotage us. Nothing else matters or has that same effect on us. I believe that you either give yourself positive self talk, or negative self talk.

That sounds pretty simplistic, I hear you say. That’s where you are probably right. In essence it is pretty simple, we just make it ‘hard’. We have a choice, either way, however there are circumstances that need to be overcome – conditioning Beliefs.

During ‘Life’ we are conditioned by events and the people immediately around us. This can be a very complex area and I don’t intend going deep here because I may start to drown. I’ll leave that to others more qualified.

Simply put if I may, you are conditioned by negative influences or positive ones. Either way, most of these “conditioning factors” stay with you from a very early age – unless you do something about them(the negative ones) – “Choice” then comes in to play. You need to become aware of the ones that are dragging you down/holding you back.

When “self talking”, I suggest these3 Rules be always kept in mind:

Rule 1……never put yourself down……regardless of the negative conditioning you may have received, you are special, treat yourself accordingly

Rule 2…..look for the good in everything/everyone……..there are a lot of downsides in Life but many more upsides. Look hard enough & you will find them

Rule 3……you Can do it, trust yourself…….when you have been told a million times “that can’t be done/you can’t do that”, you start to believe it……Don’t

As a Life Coach, I have listened to many “stories”. The stories that I hear, often have a common denominator -  The story teller/client has a long term conditioning factor that has been destructive without them knowing.  This conditioning or Belief more often than not involves at least one of the above “rules”. The Rule(s) has not been allowed a place in their thoughts therefore their “self talk” has been compromised.

Now a story that I would like to leave you with…… If you are struggling with “negative conditioning”, you can strengthen your Life by engaging with the inner you. There is a positive you yearning to break out……if you allow it. There is so much to be positive about.

Engage with positive people, engage with positive thoughts & discard the negative influences that currently surround you. It is your choice and it can be done.

Be good to yourselves
