A somewhat poetic piece is offered for critique by the blogging Universe this day. This post is a little contraryto my usualhowever a “change of pace” is warranted at times.
I guess I was carried away by my feelings and felt it necessary “to let it out”…..
Humour me if you will and/or ‘picture’ yourself and your feelings as a new day dawns for you. As I journey thru my Mid Life years, each day that dawns has added significance for me. I hope that it does for you too, regardless of which stage of Life that you are currently enjoying.
“The sun is shining and the landscape is coming alive before my very eyes.
My senses are stimulated as every fibre of my body reacts to the life around me.
As I breathe in this wonder, my thoughts turn to the joy of the moment and gratitude wells within me. How can negativity exist when so many positives surround me?
Slow down from the rapid pace of life, dwell and absorb the moment
Let time stand still and focus on the quiet inside of you and the serenity that surrounds you.
Then re-awaken & be grateful that you can enjoy this moment and those to follow
You can feel truly alive and your fears, your worries, your missgivings are merely apparitions.”
Be good to yourselves

Being a Life Coach or as I prefer to be known, Life Solutions Specialist (because that’s what I provide), I speak with many who find themselves stuck on something. Not unusual.
But hey, here’s the thing. I have found people will beat themselves up either trying to find a way forward by themselves & often be frustrated by failing to do so Or….. give up completely, then be down on themselves for being a ‘failure’.
Yet….when we talk about this together, the ‘answer’ usually becomes blindingly obvious.
So being down on yourself, frustrated by not being able to ‘solve your problem’ is completely unnecessary….we have all been there.
Sharing your ‘problem’ does have it’s benefits.
The lesson: Don’t be an island…..ask for help
Be good to yourselves

Is it something you say/do when you first get up in the morning…”Geewizz ‘mediocrity’ looks to be on the agenda today, let’s go get it”
Mediocrity is said to “be the enemy of greatness” yet mediocrity is everywhere we look & is accepted as part of many people’s daily lives.
People in general want to “fit in, be one of the crowd”. It seems a sin to want to stand out, be extraordinary, be conspicuous, be great.
Being ‘one of the crowd’ may have some merit for those who have previously felt isolated, lonely, lack self-esteem….and that’s fair enough. And when you get “re-established”, adjust your aim so that you shoot a little higher.
For the majority who should know better but seem intent on “just getting through the day”, “making no waves” and all the similar excuses that go with this – your aim is well, short of the mark (classic mediocrity).
Aiming higher gets the senses working overtime, in your favour. It will make you feel alive and when “going for it”, The Universe will conspire to give you every support. If you “don’t have a go” as we say here in Aussieland, you let yourself down. Not everybody will achieve what they aim for however aiming for something greater…..is achievement in itself.
That being said, how do we break free of our mediocrity and aim for something better? – We can start by making conscious choices to do so.
We can choose to think differently and use our imagination to look at our world through a different set of eyes.
Imagination opens up a lot of “what if’s” and ‘What could be’s”. Don’t just accept ‘what is’…consider ‘what if’…and open up fresh possibilities.
Use your imagination to create a better life for yourself. Open up the possibilities, release the average, introduce the greatness in your life and very importantly…follow thru on yournew imagined Lifeand believe that you CAN do it – let go of the mediocrity, it’s not your friend.
Be good to yourselves

“Often the simple things become infuriatingly complicated. Some by design, many by us”.
Whatever “it” is that’s causing you distress, angst, frustration & the like, it’s unlikely to be rocket science when you drill down a little.
I love to cut through (thru for my North American friends)…..*now that gives me a thought. The English language is often unnecessarily complicated(at least the version I’m used to)…why not spell it as you say it. I am on a mission to uncomplicate things, so from now I will use “thru”…..now where was I, oh yeh
I was saying that ‘I love to cut thru’…we often see and hear things that really should be quite simple, being “layered” with complications whether it be beauracratic red tape, inflammatory or unnecessary language, conflicted thoughts. This can be mind numbing stuff indeed.
There’s probably little that I can do about the beauracracy however the language and thoughts side of things, I can……and socan you. I suggest that you take the time to really think about this… maybe even meditate on it, you will find that the complications/fears are really unnecessary… you just need to examine your thoughts and become much more aware of them.
Clearing up the background noise from your thoughts will invite clearer language and sharper action.
Here are 4 cut thru’s which will simplify your day, week, month & year and your Life :
Simply ‘say what you mean’, everytime…don’t bring other stories into play
Think in ‘ones’…not twos, threes, fives, seventeens etc, for example “What is the one thing that I can do/stop doing now, that will make a huge difference to my Life”…concentrate on that, master it then move onto the next improvement
Listen with both ears i.e listen with the intent to understand the other. This will create simpler, direct communication
Focus on doing one thing at a time(instead of multiple)…so that you do it to your best ability
Yet many seem to think that thisis too hard(old habits are often hard to break)….. when in fact, it is quite simple. “Life” throws a lot at us however when we have the ball in our hands, we have the power to neutralise any “Rocket Science” issues and make our lives flow without unnecessary complication.
So why don’t we do it? We often say we will but rarely do our actions mirror this(again, breaking old habits). So why be addicted to complication?
If you make life too complicated then you are likely to be anchored to the same spot. Cut thru, simplify your thoughts, language and actions, “lift off” and open yourself to do so much more.
Does this make sense to you? Let me know in the comments below.
Be good to yourselves

Well, are you?…excited by Life that is
Do you look forward to each day?
Do you enjoy what you do?
I see so many “lost souls” meandering through their day seemingly stuck in a ‘trance like’ mode.
I have flat spots during my week, I’m sure that we all do however I always find a trigger point to get me back into excitement mode. It could be anything however it always starts with a thought & I see the key to excitement is “thinking excitement”, with the emphasis on the “thinking” part.
You see, I view my Life as one to be lived not one to just exist in. Simply being Alive is justification to be excited!…..it’s not something to take for granted. It’s the opportunity to learn, grow, love, share & explore. What’s not to be excited about that!
Being excited draws all the “happenings” to you…naturally. Excitement creates energy & vibration…it can’t help but draw same to you. C’mon join in!
So, what excites you!…Let me know in the comments below
To get the ball rolling:
I am excited by the early morning sun, by endless possibilities that can enter my day, by my daughters’ evolving maturity, by nature, by new friends coming into my Life, by my thoughts and imagination…..and I could go on but I won’t, it’s over to you…
Be good to yourselves

A change of pace today, fellow Life Lovers. I am delighted to present my review of Alex Blackwell’s first book Saying Yes to Change: 10 TimelessLife Lessons for Creating Positive Change.
I have learnt so much from Alex over the past 18 months through his wonderful writings at his blog The Bridgemaker and I thoroughly recommend his blog and this book to you.
Right from the Introduction…..I was hooked.
For the purposes of this review, I will feature “The10 Lessons” & highlight the writings in each ‘lesson’ which were a standout for me, hopefully they will be for you as well.
Bearing in mind that the whole book is a standout, this was difficult, however here goes…after watching this 1 minute (plus a little) video, please read on
Lesson One
Over generalisations…”Over-generalisation is when we believe that if one bad thing happens, then everything else is doomed to go poorly”…isn’t it amazing how people tend to exaggerate their situations, biased toward the negative. It happens all the time. Re think your language, look for the positive & start turning things around.
Lesson Two
“Freedom doesn’t come with a price but it does come with a promise”…prophetic words. Alex goes on to list “three simple but Life Changing words”:
Acknowledge…what’s holding you back, what needs to be changed, your strengths
Accept…that no matter the past, you can begin again
Allow…good things to find you, your gifts to be shared, hope, love
“Freedom’s promise is simple: Nothing has power over you without your permission”
Lesson Three
Stop trying so hard…”be willing to be yourself”
“To change or grow, we must be willing to acknowledge what’s not working.”
These words say it all for me.
Lesson Four
Accept yourself – look for the vibrant colours inside of you
People have a tendency to “cloak” themselves, a protective layer if you will. Take off the cloak and allow your true self/colours to show. Alex has found the strength to do this & will no longer hide his colours from the world…..you can too.
Lesson Five
Life is Beautiful…It is my choice how I live Life and how I view Life
Learn to live without asterisks…exercise your choice to choose Life’s beauty & all that is good about Life…”It’s the small things as well as the big ones, that create my beautiful Life”.
Living Life without conditions frees us to be who we truly are.
Lesson Six
“Love is a Choice”…
“Throughout Life, we often have the opportunity to fall in love.”…..”But I am talking about a more enduring type of love – a ‘whole self’ type of love. In order to live a happy & purposeful life it is important to choose to become a loving person.”…..Choice here is obviously so very powerful
Lesson Seven
Live beyond your skin…”If you are looking for happy life, be happy – right now. Do good things for others – right now. Be kind, smile and look for what’s right in the situation – right now. The way to the life that you desire is within your control – right now.”
Now, Today is where it’s at. Make your choices & act…right now.
Lesson Eight
Find the brighter side of Failure…“I celebrate my humanness”...”I don’t want to be perfect, I just want to be Alex. When my confidence is lacking, I try to remember that I don’t have to be perfect. Part of who I am is the mistakes I have made along the way. These mistakes contribute to my humanness…..” This says it all for me, just be & accept you as yourself & change will accompany you.
Lesson Nine
Take down the White Flag…”Learn to strive for a 10 in all areas of your Life”
“Striving for a 10 is a process”. The reality is that you are unlikely to be giving yourself “10′s” in all areas of your Life however the point of the exercise is to nourish what’s working in your Life, identify areas of personal growth & plan to improve in those areas.
Lesson Ten
Let faith be your Guide…getting rid of excess baggage…”The contents of my backpack change as my Life changes. When I do experience change, it’s healthy to look inside to see what’s no longer useful and what new items might be needed next.”
This is the Faith to let go of the things that no longer serve you and believe in your own power. Use what you need, let go of what you don’t need.
Now, you really don’t have any excuse not to purchase Alex’s book, do you? I bought a copy…..it’s easy.

Recently I wrote a post to my Facebook page…”Goals and dreams are not just ‘something to have’…..they are something to act on…..how about we bring them to Life people!”
And I stand by that 100%…
Having a sense of purpose for our Lives propels us forward. Setting Goals with meaning adds value to us and keeps the juices flowing.
Whether they be short term, mid or long, Goals provide us with a roadmap to follow. You then need to take action and follow the roadmap.
Dreams are the fabric which we can weave into what ever is our desire. Dreams are tantalising. They urge us to grow out of our present thoughts and explore possibilities that we would not ordinarily think are possible.
I see Dreams as a form of escapism. Sometimes burdened with boring, ”logical” thought and existence, Dreams act as a ‘pressure release valve’ as we escape to other thoughts.
Importantly, dreams/dreaming allow us to create.
Dreaming with intent steps it up a notch & adds real punch to your purpose & crystallises you into action…..and action ultimately, is the key.
Meaningful Goals and Dreams help form your longer term Vision for your Life…..at least that’s the way I see it (when done with the right degree of purpose). You may not notice it at first however they will interconnect…(you can’t have one without the other, in my opinion) and this is where the real action commences…..bringing all this to Life!
Depending on which stage of Life you’re currently at, a longer term Vision may not seem important…yet. Once you arrive @ your forties, looking beyond tomorrow takes on much more significance.
There will probably be pieces to the puzzle not yet in place. (In my previous post, I mentioned brushstrokes on your Big Picture)…I like to vary the metaphors. You will have aspirations, you will have a reason to put your Life into some sort of order “before time gets too quickly away”.
If you have been gradually building your longer term “Vision” through regular goal setting and dreaming, then adding the final touches should come quite easily. Though remember to keep action always at the ready.
If you haven’t been a goal setter or ‘dreamer’, I urge you to try it…..it’s never too late to start. You can only benefit by doing so.
As a Life Coach, I help men & women aged 40 & over bring their Goals/Dreams/Visions to Life. Can I help you?
Be good to yourselves
